Kenny Bumbaco's Electronic Portfolio

Foundational Understanding

Through my coursework, I believe I have attained a strong understanding of the foundations of public education.  Through my undergraduate work, I have demonstrated my subject knowledge.  Through educational psychology, I learned about child development, as I demonstrate in this paper:

Applied Educational Psychology: An important part of teaching is understanding the needs of one's students.  As part of an educational psychology course, I imagined a possible classroom and assessed the psychological background and needs of my students based on my knowledge of child development.

Through my Social and Philosophical Foundations of Education class, I learned about the history and importance of a free and public education in the United States:

Reflection on ESL in the Classroom: As a part of this class, I reflected on a issues currently affecting public schools.  One that is particulary close to my heart is the treatment of ESL students.

In content area reading and writing, I learned about the importance of literacy in the classroom:

The RAFT Strategy: I presented a writing strategy called RAFT in the classroom.  This PowerPoint discusses my research findings.

I learned about all of the various disabilities covered by IDEA in Adaptations for Diverse Populations and Characteristics of Exceptional Students:

Electronic Resource Notebook: Through this assignment, I demonstrate knowledge of each area of disability by critiquing a resource.
