Reflective Practitioner

As part of my first semester practicum experience, I was expected to reflect both on my implementation of mini-lessons and on my experience as a whole.

Methodology Journal: As part of a foreign language methods course, I had to review various aspects of the classrooms of my cooperating teachers.

Literacy Journal: In a content reading and writing course, I reflected on how literacy was addressed in the classroom as well as the use of reading and writing strategies.  I also was required to interview and observe a teacher in another content area.

Mini-lesson 1: In this first practicum mini-lesson, I used a picture game to review which prepositions follow which verbs in Spanish.

Mini-lesson 2: In this mini-lesson, I created a group information gap activity where students had to try to guess who pictures described using Spanish descriptors only.  This lesson addresses the Communications standard (ACTFL) by having the students use Spanish to communicate with each other in an informal setting.

Mini-lesson 3: This mini-lesson involves the instruction of a writing strategy known as RAFT to a Spanish 4 classroom.  This lesson addresses the Connections standard (ACTFL) as students learn a strategy that will help them with Language Arts as well.

Mini-lesson 4: In this full lesson plan intervention, I emphasized the importance of re-reading to my Spanish 2 students.

During my student teaching semester, I reflected upon each lesson I created after teaching.  The following reflections represent my student teaching experience:

Mid-term Reflection: In this reflection, I explore how well I met my goals for my high school experience and I set goals for myself for my middle school experience.

Video Reflection: Although this lesson went poorly, I learned from my mistakes and improved the second time I taught it.

Final Reflection: In this reflection, I review my middle school experience, which I believe has greatly improved my teaching skills.

Student Feedback: In this document, I have compiled the results of student feedback from my high school students.  I followed these comments with a reflection.
