Professional Disposition
I strongly believe in a collaborative workplace for teacher in which teachers freely share with one another strategies and interventions that have and have not worked for them. I believe in working beyond contract hours. I believe in being available to help students before and after school and even during lunch. As a professional, it is important to be ethical both inside and outside the classroom and to be a "real person" with the students rather than a "sage on the stage." I believe in setting goals for my own instruction, as I demonstrate in my midterm reflection. I also believe that veteran teachers all have something important to share. In this interview with one of my former Latin teachers, I gained a unique perspective on the sort of attitude a veteran teacher might have. I then reflected on her responses. I have attended several professional development opportunities including a best practices discussion on a teacher work day. I also have attended department and faculty meetings at my schools. It is important to know what is going on at your school in order to understand what other factors might be affecting your students.
